Major European multinational shipping company requires a senior tax professional to take responsibility managing the company's and its Agents? tax affairs in Sub-Sahara Africa and provide assistance to other group business units in Africa, and in other parts of the world.
The company operates in nearly every African country through a local subsidiary acting as Agent. Other business units within the group are involved in Logistics, Tug boats, Oil and Gas Exploration and support services. The African Tax Manager may be called upon to assist other business units from time to time.
The role:
The Individual will be expected to be pro-actively involved in managing risk and in handling tax audits and restructuring throughout the Sub-Saharan Area. This will involve
? Monitor the conduct of all tax audits in conjunction with local financial management and advisers, and get directly involved in all audits that involve Treaty interpretation/ international matters/ directly involve the shipping lines.
? Negotiations with tax authorities
? Tax risk management and country tax control reviews
? Promote tax best practice and efficient structures
? Monitor tax reporting
? Manage tax charge
? Business Restructuring
? Permanent Establishment issues
? VAT obligations and exposures
? Tax planning
Reporting lines are to the to Director of International Taxes based in Europe and working closely with Audit & Control Manager for Africa Region, and Local Financial Controllers
Preferred skills include: strong negotiating abilities; experience of working in Africa; a strong academic and professional record including a recognised tax qualification. French language skills are a definite advantage as is a willingness to travel.
